sacrament

He walked
slowly
through the beach sand
his son
tenderly
holding his left arm
his right arm lay
withered
useless
at his side
he tapped his right foot
softly
on the grainy surface
carefully
the way
a soldier looks for
landmines

finally
he reached the
shoreline
his daughter then came
from his right
where she was
playing with her children
reached down
into the ocean
cupped her hand
and poured
some cool water
over his forehead

he took his sons hand
and touched it aginst his lips
at that moment
for the first time
i understood
baptism

A long way from Nazareth

...back from vacation. the'69 Mets were feted` last night at bailout field,of course, in true Mets fashion, the current version lost. Could they actually be expected to do anything else? A real Mets' fan knows this, deep down, there are only a couple of good years per decade,Yengee fans are like billionaires who always want more.More more...its a sickness, expecting to win all the time, its the american neurosis, read now into the religion, american christian, which is simply the gospel of greed and abundance, a long long way from Nazareth.

old days

when i was very young
i would see a blade of grass in between pavement stones and smile
a shock of green or yellow{ if a dandelion accompanied }
it was always hot
(i barely remember winters}
the sky always seemed not blue but hazy the
air smelled of chemicals sweat and something always on fire
it burned your nose
heat that rose in orchestrated waves off the black tar
the empty lot on the corner with the smoke and lava like ground was our Shea stadium
there was a corrugated fence covered in IVy where we imagined road games in wrigley
there we played the game of our lives
each and every day
until our Mothers called us to dinner
